Cafe Balagan opened in 2021 at 241 Main Street, in the downtown Northampton storefront that previously held the Green Bean.
Lyla Lounge
Thursday through Saturday the café stays open past dinner and becomes Lyla Lounge, a late-night bar running 6pm to 11pm in the same room. The lounge menu leans Mediterranean and snacky rather than a full dinner service: charcuterie, a sardine plate, shishito peppers, and pastries, alongside beer and wine. The beer comes from New City Brewery in Easthampton.
Balagan is one of the few places on this stretch of Main Street where you can get an espresso at eight in the morning and a glass of wine at ten at night without changing venues. It is a short walk from the Academy of Music Theatre and the Iron Horse Music Hall, which makes the late hours useful on a show night.
