Free Family Concert by the STEP Suzuki Strings
The Suzuki Talent Education Partnership (STEP) invites the public to its Year-End Concert where the audience will enjoy a free, family-friendly concert of instrumental string music. The STEP Suzuki Strings, STEP's performing ensemble comprised of students from age 5 to adult, will perform folk songs and masterworks by Bach, Becker, Gossec, Mozart, Suzuki, Thomas, and Vivaldi from memory. The group will also perform works arranged for string orchestra, including three songs from Fiddler on the Roof and three works transcribed by director Lani Bortfeld. These transcriptions will include Scott Joplin's lively ragtime classic The Entertainer, the haunting Peruvian El Condor Pasa, and the fiddle favorite Ashokan Farewell featuring Dinorah Rosario, a STEP graduating senior who has been accepted as a scholarship student at Berklee College of Music for September 2012. For more information, call Lani Bortfeld, director, at (413)734-4458 or visit www.suzukitalented.com.
Open Rehearsal: The Suzuki Talent Education Partnership (STEP) invites the public to come to Faith United Church, 52 Sumner Ave. in Springfield on Wednesday May 2nd to observe an open rehearsal as the STEP Suzuki Strings polish memorized repertoire of classics and folk songs and rehearse string orchestra pieces for STEP's 23rd annual Suzuki String Serenade. The classes are held upstairs in the sanctuary, and start at 5:15 PM with the beginning class of students, aged five to eight years. Classes continue through 7:45 PM, when the middle and high school-aged students in the Chamber Ensemble finish their rehearsal. Families with children are encouraged to observe STEP classes in a respectful manner that doesn't distract the students. Please call Director Lani Bortfeld ahead of time to let us know you're coming: (413)734-4458.
