"We are going to surprise reality until it changes!" These are the words of Gabriel Meyer Halevy, co-founder of the Sulha Peace Project, an annual international peace and reconciliation festival in the Holy Land. Resplendent with music, dance, theater, spirituality and interreligious dialogue, the grassroots peace initiative has steadily grown from a small group of 150 to about 5,000 participants in 7 years. The Sulha Peace Project and the Israeli band, ‘Amen’ will present a film screening, talk and concert on stage at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton, Massachusetts on October 28th at 7:30 p.m.
'Sulha,' an Arabic word meaning 'pardon,' or 'forgiveness,' is an indigenous Middle Eastern custom for reconciling differences. After receiving the personal blessings of the Dalai Lama, and infused with new energy from the growing annual and smaller local gatherings, the co-founders of the project are now bringing their message to a greater audience through an international tour celebrating the release of Amen's new CD, entitled, "Hateva (Nature) – The Skin of God."__The evening will begin with an introduction to the grassroots Israeli-Palestinian peace effort with co-founder, Gabriel Meyer Halevy. The presentation will include the screening of a 20 minute documentary ‘On the Way to Sulha’, a grassroots movement that draws Israelis, Palestinians, Druze, Bedouin, academics, peacemakers, activists, children, artists, professionals, elders, clergy, and educators; both secular and religious. The deeply transformative gatherings aim to rebuild trust, restore dignity and move beyond the political agenda. You are invited to both witness and join in this important process. More info is available at http://www.sulha..com/__Following the opening presentation will be an enchanting 80-minute musical performance of rich fusion, world beat and sacred healing melodies by the 5-piece World Music band, 'Amen.' Lyrics will be in English, Spanish & Hebrew with a twist of Arabic and Aramaic. Amen will be performing songs from their new release, 'Hateva – The Skin of God,' a follow-up to their beloved 2001 CD of sacred, meditation music, 'Merkava..'__Amen features Israeli musicians: Amir Paiss ( formerly of the band Sheva - santur, guitar, vocals) & Gabriel Meyer Halevy ( vocals, guitar). Guest musicians will include: Harel Shachal ( wind instruments), Emmanuel Man ( bass) and Gilad ( percussion)
The evening will be followed by a light Middle Eastern meal and open discussion of the Sulha movement for a select group of VIP donors who wish to support_the cause. Cost $90.00 includes front section seating and VIP passes.
